This quote still doesn’t recognize that men don’t really have the nicer cage a lot of the time. Who gives men a pillow and better food? Men provide for women, women aren’t taken from to provide for men.

Men having a ‘slightly nicer cage’ just seems to me like it represents the fact that men could vote, own land, speak openly, and in general had more independence than women in a lot of cases. Within their shitty gender roles was room for those rights, where as in women’s shitty gender roles there weren’t. Women had room for other things that men were denied, but women were historically considered inferior to men because the role they were given cast them as inept, naive children that would be a danger to themselves if they were allowed too much freedom.

Both roles are oppressive bullshit that hurt the people unfortunate enough to be forced into them, and men don’t inherently have a better starting point, but I like the point the quote makes, in that who’s perceived as less oppressed really isn’t important when we’re all being oppressed in the first place.
